Two Important Dates

Returning to school as a student is right around the corner, ten days and counting. I'm looking forward to it. My fall teaching schedule is going to take me to Nashville, TN for an OT and NT course for those that I fondly call “pew huggers.” There is a lot of talk, planning, execution of plans, courses, seminars, follow up, etc. for leaders. But my passion is for those who seem to be left out of the game most of the time. My passion and call is to the “pew huggers.” I love them and want them to have an equal share at learning to live in God's story. Of course, I am overstating the balance between training of those who are ripe for leadership and those who warm the pews Sunday after Sunday. In reality, however, the latter do not usually have the focus put on them.

I am working with the local community of faith that my family participates with to provide a training program for this very group of people. It should be fun!

Tomorrow, our family is going to hang out with the community of faith as we serve the larger community in which the church participates by giving away water and other goodies for those watching the annual local town parade in Shoreline, WA.

I am only a few days away from two very important days in my calendar year. My birthday is August 24, 2004, I will turn 62 years of age. I know, that sounds old, but just remember that once I was as you are but soon you will be as I am. My body feels older. It doesn’t do all the things that it could when it was younger, but in my mind I still think of myself in my late 20s or early 30s. The second is my wedding anniversary. Donna and I will be married 38 years on August 26, 2004. She is a wonderful woman, all that I could have ever hoped for. She is a bit older than I am so we had to wait till I turned her physical age to get married. ;-)
